Twitter Is Rallying Around Shia LaBoeuf After His Arrest At An Anti-Trump Art Exhibition

In the days since President Donald Trump's inauguration, concerned Americans have been looking to their idols in Hollywood for guidance as to how to survive the next four years of assured political chaos.

Many are taking inspiration from their favorite creatives who are channeling Carrie Fisher and "turning broken hearts into art."

...And facing some legal consequences.

Few celebrities have been more vocal in their opposition to Donald Trump than actor (and, more recently, performance artist) Shia LaBoeuf.

On Thursday morning, LaBoeuf attended a rally against Donald Trump at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City, where his art exhibition — a protest of Trump's presidency — will run continuously for the next four years. The installation features the words "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US" written on a white wall with a camera attached to film the public reading the words for a live streaming video.

The exhibit's beginnings didn't go quite as planned — the actor was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment after getting into an altercation with a protestor.

While the actual arrest and altercation aren't easily visible from the live stream, you can see LaBoeuf go off camera moments before his arrest while museum goers try to ignore some surrounding chaos.

According to New York Police Department spokesman Sgt. Thomas Antonetti, LaBeouf and a 25-year-old protester got into a heated verbal exchange in front of the Museum. Then LaBeouf allegedly pulled on the man's scarf, scratching his face in the process.

Upon hearing of LaBoef's arrest, the Twitterverse went wild, voicing support for the actor and attempting to shed light on the altercation.

...Not all support could be done entirely seriously, though. This joke was begging to be made.

According to Detective Christopher Pisano, LaBoeuf has since been released.
