Drinking and driving isn't cool. I can't count the number of times I've been coming home from the city and I've been behind a car of swerving idiots or people falling asleep at the wheel because they couldn't be bothered to pay for an Uber or take a train or bus to wherever they were going.
I do understand how it can happen though. You get to a party and you don't really expect to be drinking at all. But then you go and figure one or two shots won't kill you. And then that snowballs and before you know it you're doing upside down keg stands and twerking on the wall while eating vodka soaked gummy bears and dancing to weird Armin Van Buren remixes. It happens.
Tostitos understands this however, and wants to help you get home safely. Yes, I'm talking about the tortilla chip company.
They've introduced the "Party Safe" bag, and they're hoping it's going to get a lot of people home safe from their Super Bowl shindigs this year.

The unique bag was created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners and is decked out with a special sensor that's hooked up to a microcontroller. These little bits of gadgetry are programmed to detect trace levels of alcohol on a person's breath. If the bag detects any booze, a flashing red image displays, "Don't drink and drive", but that's not all.
The "Party Safe" bag also comes equipped with an NFC chip you can tap against your phone to immediately call an Uber and get $10 off your ride.

It's a special promotion Tostitos has teamed up with Uber for, so anyone during and after the Super Bowl on February 5th will have access to the special discount.
Creative director at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Roger Baran, says the bag works both practically and ideologically.
"We're proud to introduce to the world the first bag of chips that gets you home safe. For a football fan, there is a lot of emotion involved with a game. It's easy to drink more than you planned. And a lot of times all you need to stop short of driving after drinking is a friend who calls you off. On Sunday of the big game, we want Tostitos to be that friend."
It seems there's no getting around getting smashed on the Super Bowl. If you're happy the Pats lose, you'll drink to celebrate. If they win, you'll drown your sorrows. If you're just watching the Super Bowl for the commercials, then you're going to want to get drunk to distance yourself from the sad fact that the only thing you had to look forward to that day is clever advertising.
So these bags were a pretty good idea. (h/t adweek)
