Students Raise $200 To Buy New Shoes For Special Needs Classmate

J.R. Gilbert is a special needs student at Somerset High School in Texas. For the past few months, J.R. has been wearing shoes that are two sizes too small for him. J.R. does have shoes that fit him, but the shoes he insists on wearing belonged to his beloved grandfather, who recently passed away, and he's been wearing them ever since.

So, to try and get J.R. into a pair of shoes that fit, fellow students knew that they'd need shoes that were even more special to him. Dozens of students, spearheaded by three student-athletes, managed to raise $200 and surprise him with two new pairs of sneakers.

A classmate shared the surprise on Twitter.

Twitter users were touched by the act of kindness.
