Student Gets 4.0 Then Drops Out Of College Calling It A Scam

I was really disillusioned with my undergrad college experience. Half of my 124 credits seemed pretty useless. I took a bunch of courses that covered material I either already learned in high school or had no bearing on my major or a useful application to my everyday life.

It made me want to speed through my university experience as fast as possible, and after taking it easy my first two semesters with only 12 credits, I loaded up with 18 and 21-credit semesters and graduated early.

I felt woefully unprepared for the real world and carried a bitterness towards school for the longest time. Years later I finally enrolled in grad school, which was a way better experience. But I'll never forget my undergrad experience or the loans I'm still paying off.

Which is why this student who got a 4.0 in his first semester, dropped out of school with a strong message: F*ck College.

Here's his post in full:

Now that i've finished my first semester I think it's safe to say... FUCK COLLEGE. Now before all you of you go batshit crazy... i have a few points to make
1. Yes I have dropped out after finishing my first semester (with a 4.0 GPA). And it's one of the best choices I've ever made. Not because I am adverse to learning, but actually the exact opposite.
2. YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED. You may not see it today or tomorrow, but you will see it some day. Heck you may have already seen it if you've been through college. You are being put thousands into debt to learn things you will never even use. Wasting 4 years of your life to be stuck at a paycheck that grows slower than the rate of inflation. Paying $200 for a $6 textbook. Being taught by teacher's who have never done what they're teaching. Average income has increased 5x over the last 40 years while cost of college has increased 18x. You're spending thousands of dollars to learn information you won't ever even use just to get a piece of paper. I once even had an engineer tell me "I learned more in my first 30 days working than in my 5 years of college." What does that tell you about this system? There are about a million more ways you're being scammed into this.. just watch the video i'm gonna comment if you want to see more.
3. Colleges are REQUIRING people to spend money taking gen. ed. courses to learn about the quadratic formula (and other shit they will never use) when they could be giving classes on MARRIAGE and HOW TO DO YOUR TAXES.
4. Gosh there are so many more reasons I could add, but just comment if you disagree or have reasons to add. I'd love to add to the discussion. TAG a friend in college, Tag your parents, share this if you agree, disagree. Let's just talk about it. Heck post a picture of yourself flipping off something you think is unjust in our society. #FuckInjustice

EDIT: Just released a T-Shirt to help spread the awareness further, Check them out on my page. 10% of profits will got to Boys & Girls Club of America to help empower underprivileged youth to become our future leaders.

Willson's math isn't entirely sound but he is right that the cost of tuition in the United States has increased at a ludicrous rate.

The Government Accountability Office discovered that over the course of 15 years the average cost of tuition has risen three times more than the average cost of living and income. The GAO also learned that the cost of financial aid hasn't risen to keep up with the cost of tuition either.

So that means students have to turn to private lenders for students loans. Loans that employees get commissions for.

Financial responsibility isn't something that's really taught in high school, so an 18-year-old calling up Sallie Mae and signing the future of their finances away usually doesn't know what they're up against. And with the bill passed by George W. Bush's administration that doesn't allow student loans to be absolved through bankruptcy, you'll be paying that off for the rest of your life.

The reaction to Wilson's post is varied. Some echoed his sentiments about the uselessness of US Universities.

While others thought his decision to drop out didn't entirely make sense.
