I grew up a total, unabashed nerd. I'd cram 10 hours a day of playing video games and when I wasn't gaming, I was dreaming of different comic book characters, sci-fi movie scenarios, and animes.
The days of geeking out hardcore are long behind me and I only really get to express my inner geekiness by taking my wife to see Deadpool or Dr. Strange or any of the other amazing Marvel movies that somehow manage to keep getting better and better.
But that doesn't mean I don't look at geeky products every now and then and start to wax nostalgically about how I spent my days obsessing over tech and videogames and all things nerd. Like a few of these awesome products I came across that would make my inner geek a very happy camper this Christmas.
1. NES Classic
Sure, you could just gut an old Nintendo and set up a Nintendo emulator that could easily hold every single NES game of all time, but the NES classic packs a bunch of class games into one tiny package without having to go through all the trouble of doing it yourself. That's if you can get a hold of one, that is.
2. Onnit Capcom/Marvel Collaborations
Even if you're not a fan of fighting games, you definitely have some knowledge and respect for Street Fighter and the slew of other amazing titles Capcom has put out. Onnit's collaborated with the legendary gaming publisher to bring some pretty dope shirts to celebrate your love for the greatest fighting game series the world has ever seen.
3. Marvel Themed Weights
Is there a geek in your life who's as obsessed with fitness as they are with the Marvel universe? Then check out these sweet Iron Man Kettlebell and Captin America Shield Weight Plates (super soldier serum not included).
4. Nokia 150 Classic
This $26 basic phone is the perfect back-up companion for when your smartphone's out of juice. It's packed with classic Nokia games like Snake, and also has a MicroSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack (unlike the iPhone 7) so you can listen to music. Did I mention 25 days of battery life? You're lucky to get 25 hours on modern smartphones. Put this bad boy in your backpack or glovebox and forget about it. Plus, nothing beats playing snake on a regular alpha-numeric keypad.
5. Bamboo Wireless Mouse
You know you've reached peak nerd when you start adding naturalistic elements to your everyday technology.
6. Portable Wireless Floating Bluetooth Speaker
Any self-respecting geek knows that powerful magnets and not magic are at work here to make this bluetooth speaker float. But the biggest geeks will see that this design is clearly the love child of the Death Star and R2D2.
7. Self-Balancing Robo-Servant
All right fine, it's not like you can give this thing complex commands or anything, but you'll be able to remotely control this little guy and hand pass small items from room to room without ever getting up.
8. Chemist's Spice Rack
Unleash your inner Walter White while you cook up some...dinner. The science nerd in your family will love you forever for hooking them up with these bad boys. All right, love's a strong word but you have to admit these are pretty cool.
9. Instax Mini 90 Instant Film Camera
Photography nerds will have some strong opinions on the best film cameras out there, but there are fewer things cooler for parties and instantly putting memories up on the refrigerator than a good ole' polaroid camera like this one.
10. Makey Makey
Tinkering is made easy with Makey Makey, an awesome tool developed by MIT students that lets you turn a banana into a keyboard spacebar, play-doh into video game controllers, or a bunch of old AOL CDs you've got lying around into a piano. Seriously, the possibilities are endless, check out their Classic and Go models, along with all the sweet musical instruments people were able to make with it.
11. ICEdot Crash Sensor
Avoid a 127 Hours nightmare scenario with this crash sensor. It alerts your loved ones in the event of a crash when you're out and about exploring with a pre-set emergency message.
12. Tagg Pet GPS Plus
Attach this to your pet's collar and keep track of their movements, so you'll never have to wonder where your cat is hiding. Or you could use it to confirm that your guilty looking dog was indeed the one who was in the living room shortly before your couch cushions were torn to shreds.
13. BOLT Wall Charger+Portable Battery Combo
Why carry around both a power brick and portable battery when you can have two in one? Simultaneously charge an external battery and your phone with this nifty little gift.
14. Star Wars and pretty much any other movie, or TV show-inspired jackets from USAJacket.com
This is a cosplayer's wet dream. I'm pretty much drooling over the Han Solo Force Awakens jacket but there's a ton in there that look awesome.
15. Old-School Basketball/Football Roots of Fight gear
Sports fans can be the biggest nerds of them all, just look at their faces light up whenever a team brings back a throwback jersey or someone brings up a solid bench player from late '80s in a bar. Roots of Fight is honoring the old school with their latest basketball and football clothing lines. Oh yeah, and the Rock is a fan of their stuff too, so you're giving someone the gift of having something in common with Dwayne Johnson.
16. Miniature Solar System
Hold the cosmos in your hand with this cool crystal ball that holds a scaled-down version of the solar system. It also comes with a stand so it doesn't go rolling all over the place, that would be bad for the cosmos.
17. Floppy Disk Drink Coasters
Or you could just buy a ton of old Floppy Disks, put some new labels on them and you've got yourself the same nerd-tastic gift at probably a fraction of the price.
