Top 10 Funniest Employee Training Videos

Pay attention! Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down times businesses accidentally became legendary thanks to the humor in their instructional content for new hires. Our countdown includes videos from Wendy's, Old Country Buffet, Blockbuster and more! Welcome to Viralworld Magazine, and today we’re counting down times businesses accidentally became legendary thanks to the humor in their instructional content for new hires. What training videos have you had to witness for a job? Let us know in the comments. #10: Grill Skill Wendy’s It seems like Wendy’s was trying its best to connect to the young and hip mentality of its employee base with the hot guitar licks that accompany the intro to “Grill Skill.” However, any goodwill is almost immediately dashed once the company’s founder, Dave Thomas, enters the picture. Thomas may be an accomplished businessman, but a youth-culture spokesperson he certainly is not. The video reaches its humorous apex with an instructional rap about slinging that beef. The singing patties are also a highlight. It might be cringeworthy, but we admire the enthusiasm. #9: Shoplifting Prevention F. W. Woolworth Company Alleged ex-professional shoplifter Dick Deal takes stealing seriously. This training video from Woolworth’s utilizes the character to highlight all the tricks many unscrupulous “customers” try in order to pull a fast one. The thing is, Deal’s heavy breathing and lengthy bouts of uncomfortable silence — combined with his mutterings and commentary over closed-circuit video — make for an uncomfortable watch. While it might be attempting to teach employees how to spot thieves, it winds up more darkly funny than educational. The clip is a bit uncanny, kind of sleazy, and unintentionally humorous. #8: Buster Sales Blockbuster The video rental chain created a number of fun in-house training videos over the course of its existence, including a parody of film critics Siskel & Ebert titled “Driscoll & Egbert.” But the company’s magnum opus was clearly the epic “Buster Sales.” This is the sort of training video that’s ripe for parody. From the forced enthusiasm and energy to the cheesy performances, it’s pure comedy gold. We seriously don’t know what level of customer service Blockbuster was seeking from its employees, but we do know that the level displayed in “Buster Sales” was too much then and probably would be too much forever. advertisement #7: Steak Is Freedom Sizzler The level of sincerity in this internal promotional film for the Sizzler restaurant chain cuts like the sharpest, strongest, and most American of steak knives. Baseball, family time, a man working at a construction site — this film has it all. The nineties clip connects Sizzler’s freedom of food choice with the liberties the United States grants its citizens. In promoting its grill and buffet-style restaurants with a warm glow and a swelling score, the chain genuinely presents the idea of enjoying Sizzler’s plentiful offerings as the most patriotic act a person can perform. We salute you, Sizzler. #6: Handling Hot Drinks Wendy’s This gem of a training video teaches new employees the ins and outs of serving hot drinks. Wendy’s might be trying to connect with younger employees via music, and in this case the chain succeeded in producing an entertaining bop. The short-but-sweet song takes its inspiration from eighties synth-pop hits. It also reminds us a little bit of Paula Abdul’s “The Promise of a New Day.” And we have to give the clip credit for getting its message across about handling Wendy’s array of hot beverages with safety and style. The whole thing is so hilariously of its time that we can’t help but smile. #5: Carving Station Etiquette Old Country Buffet There’s definitely some comedy gold lurking in the video archives of the Old Country Buffet. There’s no smarm or self-awareness to be had here — just pure, unfiltered sincerity about serving customers in the best possible way. It’s the juxtaposition of this aim against the untrained acting of the performers that makes this video on carving station etiquette so funny. The delivery of the employee manning a carving board vacillates between serviceable and “I really don’t wanna be here” kinds of energy. It’s the sort of presentation that we love to cringe along to while we watch. #4: Boredom vs. Hilarity McDonald’s POV: It’s 1970, and you’ve just landed your first part-time job. Your training video starts out with this dreary man prattling on about everyday Mickey D duties, and your mind starts to wander. But this instructional video actually seems to be in on the joke, with the whole thing helmed by comedian Pat Paulsen. The video presents many satirical examples of what could happen if employees aren’t on top of every situation, often with results that make our sides split with laughter. File this one alongside other hilarious McDonald’s training videos, from harrowing takes on burger-related trauma to a new hire being hounded by a custodial spirit. Jewel-Osco This video had us sold from the very start. With the retro layout of the “Customers First” graphic and a catchy theme song, we’re just about ready to get fitted for a smock and start working for the Jewel-Osco supermarket chain ourselves. As the instructions continue, the video shows several humorous examples of what an employee might want to say in response to an inconvenient customer. Of course, the company encourages courteous exchanges, but the scenarios are still funny. The several close-up shots of employees give viewers a look at the sweat-inducing lifestyle of the customer always coming first. #2: Chili Can Be Served with Cheese Wendy’s Did you know that Wendy’s chili can be served with cheese? This training video shows just how pumped the fast food chain seems to be about topping the dish with some shredded cheese. The funky jam that soundtracks this training video is infectious as it describes how to properly stir, fill, and dish out bowls of Wendy’s chili to the masses. Add on some instructions about preparing a Frosty and serving milk and cookies, and the video hits on some seemingly random menu items with an infectious enthusiasm. It honestly makes us want a large bowl of chili — with cheese, of course. #1: Clean It! McDonald’s We have got to give credit where credit is due — this McDonald’s take on Michael Jackson is impressive. The choreography is slick for the budget, and everyone involved seems to be having a good time and trying their best. The song is also a better knock-off of “Beat It!” than an employee training video like this probably deserves, but we are here for it nonetheless. We hope that this video helped at least one Mickey D’s get a spotless shine, thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in “Clean It!'
