Our countdown includes movies "Deadpool 3", “The Batman – Part II”, “Inside Out 2” and more! Welcome to Viralworld Magazine, and today we’re counting down our picks for the most popular anticipated films that are expected to do well in the next few years. Are there any other movies you’re looking forward to? Let us know in the comments below! #20: “M3GAN 2.0” (2025) Released in the doldrums of January, “M3GAN” was able to transcend its notorious release month, becoming a bonafide cultural phenomenon. Aided by excellent reviews and a strong presence on social media, “M3GAN” grossed about $181 million on a $12 million budget. Therefore, it came as no surprise when plans of a sequel were unveiled soon after. The tentative release date is January 17, 2025 and many people are scheduled to return, including stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw. Even better, co-producer-writer James Wan claimed they “have an idea of where [they] want to go” in the event of sequels. We can certainly envision a long future and potential franchise should “M3GAN 2.0” do well, which we bet it will. #19: “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” (2024) The MonsterVerse began back in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” and has since encompassed several films and television shows. In the year of the franchise’s tenth anniversary, Warner Brothers is releasing “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” This is the direct sequel to 2021’s “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which grossed roughly $470 million in the midst of the COVID pandemic. The film will pit the titular monsters “against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world” and is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024. COVID hindered “Godzilla vs. Kong,” likely preventing many people from seeing it on the big screen. Well, we’re sure folks will run to the biggest screen possible this time around. This film deserves it. #18: “A Quiet Place: Day One” (2024) John Krasinski completed his arc from TV actor to Hollywood superstar with “A Quiet Place.” He co-wrote, directed, and starred in the film, which was made for a measly $17 million but which grossed a staggering $341 million. “A Quiet Place Part II” followed in 2020, but had to contend with the COVID pandemic. Still, it managed to make nearly $300 million, ensuring a spin-off prequel titled “Day One.” In it, we’ll get a look at how the invasion first unfolded, which also means meeting new players. The cast notably includes Lupita Nyong'o, Alex Wolff, and Joseph Quinn fresh off his “Stranger Things” fame. Look for the flick on June 28, 2024. advertisement #17: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (2024) When it comes to trilogies, it’s hard to beat the rebooted “Planet of the Apes.” Very solid from start to finish, it was widely praised for its visual effects and surprising emotional depth. It seemingly came to a satisfying end in 2017 with “War for the Planet of the Apes,” but then Disney bought 20th Century Fox and began making plans for more films. Enter “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which will be set 300 years after the events of “War.” In a fresh and exciting twist, “Kingdom” will depict a thriving ape civilization, with humans in a more wild and primitive state. We can’t wait to see where that story goes. #16: “Civil War” (2024) A24 has a very strong track record, and it looks to continue that with their most ambitious film yet. “Civil War” will depict, well, a civil war in the near-future of America, with a dictatorship having thrown the country into extremist violence. The film is sure to contain some heavy and complex themes regarding politics, war, and partisanship, but it will also bring the entertainment. A great cast involving Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, and Jesse Plemons are directed by Alex Garland, who has helmed modern classics like “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation.” On April 26, 2024, we may very well have a new classic on our hands. #15: “Gladiator 2” (2024) “Gladiator” was among the biggest films of 2000. It was the second highest-grossing movie of the year and took home five Oscars, including Best Picture. Now, nearly a quarter of a century later, Ridley Scott is returning to his classic world for a long awaited follow-up. The story will follow Lucius Verus, Commodus’ nephew, on what’s sure to be a riveting adventure. He is played by Paul Mescal, who will notably be joined by the likes of Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, and Derek Jacobi as Gracchus. Did we need a “Gladiator” sequel? Not really. Are we psyched that we’re getting one? Absolutely. #14: “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” (2024) In April 2022, Sony Pictures announced that they were making a sequel to “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” Enter “Frozen Empire,” which will relocate the spooky supernatural action back to New York City. That alone will be worth the price of admission, but there’s more. The film will blend nostalgia with the new, combining the cast from “Afterlife” with the old Ghostbusters and adding some original characters played by stars like Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. Even side characters from the first film will make an appearance, including Annie Potts’ Janine and William Atherton’s Walter Peck. Just like ghostbustin’, this film is sure to make us feel good. advertisement #13: “Inside Out 2” (2024) Pixar doesn’t often return to their old classics, but they’re making an exception with “Inside Out.” Coming about nine years after the original, this movie will feature a teenaged Riley and what is sure to be a flurry of hilarious, touching, and complex emotions. She is a teen now, after all. The old characters will be mixed with some brand new emotions, including Anxiety played by Maya Hawke. The first “Inside Out” is one of Pixar’s most acclaimed films and grossed over $858 million at the box office. Provided it gets good reviews, we can see “Inside Out 2” crossing the billion threshold. And come on, it’s Pixar. It’ll get good reviews. #12: “The Fall Guy” (2024) 2023 was not the best year for sequels and franchises, with many established names bombing. In an age when franchises are struggling, it’s becoming even harder for original films to make their mark. But we have faith in “The Fall Guy.” This is based on an old TV show from the ‘80s, but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it looks like a ton of fun, with an aging stuntman attempting to find a celebrity who’s vanished. The film will be headed by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, both of whom are huge box office draws. Coming fresh off “Barbie,” Gosling is sure to put butts in seats. Watching him flex his comedic chops is just too enticing to pass up. #11: “Saw XI” (2024) Alright, now let’s talk about the eleventh entry in a 20 year old franchise! The original “Saw” was released in 2004, lighting the indie horror world on fire and kickstarting a franchise that is still going strong to this day. 2023’s “Saw X” was especially memorable, grossing over $111 million and receiving wide praise from audiences and critics alike. It’s no surprise whatsoever that Lionsgate wants to keep this gravy train running. In December 2023 - barely three full months after the release of “X” - we learned that an eleventh film was in development and would be gracing our screens in 2024. Coming after the huge success of “X,” expect more buckets of money – and blood – in September of the year. #10: “Minecraft” (2025) Ever since its full release in 2011, “Minecraft” has completely dominated the gaming world. With videos all over YouTube, it has gone on to sell over 300 million copies, making it the best selling video game of all time. Suffice to say, the movie should do gangbusters. Not only is “Minecraft” ridiculously popular, but video game movies are hot right now, especially on the heels of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Five Nights at Freddy's.” Speaking of “Mario,” Jack Black will also be starring in the “Minecraft” film, playing a character named Steve and continuing his dominance as a modern gaming legend. There’s just no way this movie will fail. #9: “Ballerina” (2024) Speaking of things that are hot right now, “John Wick” couldn’t be hotter. “Chapter 4” became the franchise’s most lucrative entry with over $440 million earned, and is widely regarded as a modern action classic. So wouldn’t you believe it, the universe is quickly expanding, with Peacock’s “The Continental” and now an upcoming spin-off titled “Ballerina.” It will feature a dancer assassin named Rooney, who briefly appeared in “Chapter 3” and will now be played by Ana de Armas. Her star power will undoubtedly draw eyeballs, as will returning characters like Charon, Winston, and even John Wick himself. Kickstarting the summer 2024 season on June 7, “Ballerina” should dance circles around the competition. #8: “The Batman – Part II” (2025) Batman is one of those characters who will never die. Just when we were perhaps getting a little tired of him, in came Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves, both of whom helped bring the character back to his gutsy roots. “The Batman” earned wide acclaim, grossed over $770 million, and even scored three Oscar nominations. There were always plans to make more “Batman” films, and its success ensured that these plans moved forward. Indeed, the sequel was soon greenlit, and we know Pattinson will be back on our screens as the caped crusader in 2025. Thanks to the critical and commercial success of “The Batman,” we can see “Part II” improving on its box office performance and continuing something of a renaissance for the character. #7: “Captain America: Brave New World” (2025) There’s no denying that the MCU is struggling. With releases like “The Marvels” and “Quantumania” populating 2023, there have certainly been stronger years for the acclaimed franchise. But we have faith that its cultural dominance will return, and “Brave New World” will surely help lead the charge. The fourth “Captain America” film and a direct sequel to “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” it’ll see the return of Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. The “Captain America” name is very popular, and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is one of the MCU’s best television efforts. It should be enough to raise hype for “Brave New World” and inject some much-needed life into a stagnating franchise. #6: “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (2024) #5: “Dune: Part Two” (2024) Denis Villeneuve is arguably the greatest science fiction director of our time, having helmed classics like “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049.” He eventually set his sights on what many consider to be the genre’s magnum opus - Frank Herbert’s “Dune.” He did a bang-up job of the material with the 2021 movie, beautifully adapting the first half of the book and getting viewers invested in what comes next. What comes next is, suitably, “Part Two,” which is scheduled to hit screens on March 1, 2024. Given the pedigree of the novel and the success of the first film, we see “Part Two” performing very well at the box office. Moviegoers are clamoring for a blockbuster, and “Dune” is here to deliver. #4: “Deadpool 3” (2024) “Captain America: Brave New World” will help save the MCU, but “Deadpool 3” is leading the rescue effort. This will be Deadpool’s first film as a Marvel character, and as such, this will be the first MCU movie to carry an R rating. That’s certainly not the only draw to the film. Some classic characters will also be returning to the big screen, including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, who hasn’t been seen since her eponymous film nearly twenty years ago. This is sure to be an enormous hit, given Deadpool’s popularity and the return of Wolverine, which has garnered a ton of hype. Just imagine going back ten years and telling your younger self that Deadpool would save the MCU. Exactly - what? 2019’s “Joker” was a big success, surpassing a $1 billion gross and earning Joaquin Phoenix his first Academy Award. It’s no surprise that a sequel is being made – but what is surprising is how it’s been made. This time, Arthur Fleck won’t be on his own. As referenced by the title, he’s joined by a partner in crime - Lady Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn. Furthermore, the movie will not be a conventional crime drama, but a musical. We have to commend the creative risks being taken, and we think they’ll add enough fresh elements to ensure that fans return. If the movie is received well, and we’re sure it will be, then it should easily cross the billion mark. #2: “Wicked” (2024) Musicals can be tough to capitalize on, with movies like “West Side Story” and “In the Heights” getting great reviews, but underperforming at the box office. Of course, those movies don’t carry the “Wicked” name. The record-breaking musical tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West and is currently the second highest-grossing play in Broadway history. Its legacy is undeniable, and its popularity will help the movie adaptation make a major splash. The involvement of Ariana Grande also helps, as her legion of followers will undoubtedly turn up to watch her play Galinda. The first of a planned two-parter, this movie should make wicked money. Excuse the pun. #1: “Avatar 3” (2025) Move over literally every other movie - “Avatar 3” is comin’ through. After the Earth-shattering success of “Avatar,” some questioned if the sequel could deliver, especially as it came nearly fifteen years after the original. Well, James Cameron quickly proved his doubters wrong, as “The Way of Water” grossed over $2.3 billion and became the third highest-grossing film ever (inflation notwithstanding) Luckily, we won’t have to wait as long for “Avatar 3,” as it was shot alongside “The Way of Water.” In fact, we should see it on December 19, 2025, barring further delays. Regardless, it’s sure to be another cultural sensation. The only question left is: can the series’ third entry outdo its predecessors at the box office?
