President Trump met with local sheriff from across the country on Tuesday and rather worryingly offered to "destroy [the] career" of a Texas state senator who's been having a disagreement with Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Eavenson.

Eavenson told the president that an unnamed lawmaker was working on asset forfeiture legislation that would require a conviction before authorities can seize belongings. Eavenson said he believes that if passed, it would aid Mexican drug cartels.
In response to the comment, Trump offered: “Who is the state senator? Do you want to give his name? We'll destroy his career."
The crowd in the room laughed, except for President Trump, with Eavenson declining to give the senator’s name. Eavenson confirmed to Dallas News that he didn't identify the senator, and that he didn't take Trump's offer seriously.
"He was just being emphatic that he did not agree with that senator's position."
"I'm not into assassinating his character," he said of the unnamed senator.
While many took the comment as sarcasm, social media users still couldn't believe that President Trump would joke about the subject while he knew he was being recorded.

@SteveKopack The most powerful man in the world is an insecure tantrum-prone toddler with no respect for the office he holds. No big deal.

@SteveKopack Everyone else thought it was a joke, but Trump doesn't even crack a smile. He's legit confused as to why everyone is laughing.

Considering how Donald Trump has continued speaking his mind since he took office, people probably have good reason to be worried.
