A 42-year-old woman visited the Stanley Medical College and Hospital in Chennai, India, last week, after she woke up with an "itchy, crawling sensation" in her nasal cavity that was causing a lot of pain.
At first, doctors believed it was a cold or a nasal growth, but after a third hospital visit with the same symptoms, doctors used a nasal endoscopy to find the source of the woman's discomfort. The cause? A large and very much alive cockroach resting on her skull in between her eyes, according to Dr M N Shankar, head of the department.
"It was alive. And it didn't seem to want to come out," Dr Shankar told Times of India. Now they just needed to figure out a way to get it out before it caused any damage.
When a suction apparatus was used, the insect clung to the nose and refused to move. "We had to use a combination of suction and forceps to finally pull it out," Dr S Muthuchitra said. The process lasted 45 minutes.
There's something I never knew I wanted to see.
