Kellyanne Conway Attempting Standup Comedy Is As Cringeworthy As It Sounds

I go see live comedy shows twice a week. I watch the best underground sitcoms and will berate people who don't. A number of my shows have gotten runs at New York Theaters. In other words, I am a comedy snob.

Earlier this week footage was released of Kellyanne Conway performing standup at a charity event in 1998.  As I said before, I see a lot of comedy shows so trust me when I say this is one of the strangest things I have ever seen.

It starts with her explaining an injury which is a solid enough premise. Her first joke is pun about "Breaking a leg" before going on stage. She than proceeds to offer several explanations of what really happened eliciting a few chuckles.

The rest of her set was not much better despite getting a couple of zingers off at 90's DC Big Wigs. It is tempting to say that they these jokes just didn't age well but they didn't seem to land in the moment either.

Her whole set is nearly twelve minutes. Here is just some general advice for you aspiring comedy bookers out there. Never give a first time comic twelve minutes. They have no idea how to fill that time. They'll just end the show by putting on a feather boa and singing an under rehearsed song.

That may seem like a weird example but that is exactly how Kellyanne Conway finished her set. If you skip ahead to the 9 minute mark you will see her sing about the "The Pundit Blues" while wearing a big red feather boa. In her defense, it was not the most ridiculous thing she has ever worn.

Maybe I am being hard on her. Maybe my snobbishness has blinded me. Maybe someone out there is truly a fan of her standup. To the comments!

I've seen funerals get bigger laughs

So, are these "alternative" jokes?

Now I know why the endowment for the arts is under attack.

Have it now

This is so bad it made me uncomfortable. I should really enjoy this considering how awful she is, but it's hard to watch.

This crap is as funny as a train wreck.

Okay. So it doesn't seem like anyone is a fan. In fact this was the nicest comment anyone said about her set.

Stand up takes courage, I'll give her that

Very true, Steven Lovejoy. Very true.

So it seems like Ms. Conway won't be quitting her day job anytime soon. At least, not to pursue a career in comedy.
