While La La Land swept at the Golden Globes on Saturday night, Meryl Streep made waves with her acceptance speech upon winning the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award for a lifetime of notable work.
Rather than wax poetic about her artistic journey, Streep used her time to call attention to president-elect Donald Trump's problematic campaign and rhetoric. "There was one performance this year that stunned me," she said. "It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it."
Following the speech, Streep's fellow Hollywood Royalty took to Twitter to commend her.
There has never been anyone like Meryl Streep. I love her. #GoldenGlobes

Um Meryl didn't give a fuck about that speech limit, they DID NOT play the music on her either. Serve that tea girl, put some lemon in it

I've loved #MerylStreep as a person, as an actor overwhelmed by her immense artistry, but never more than tonight for speaking our truth!

Naturally, the president-elect issued a response via Twitter in which he dubbed Streep "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood."
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a.....
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 9, 2017
Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him.......
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 9, 2017
While Trump received some support (over 6,000 retweets) the Streep contingent of Twitter was enraged — and ready to call him out.
Donald Trump called Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actresses in the whole of humanity, "overrated"

If you need further proof he's a liar
So I'm hearing from Donald-lovers that because Meryl Streep is an actress, her statements have no worth. Unlike, say, a reality TV star.

Meryl Streep: "don't bully disabled people"

Trumpists: "TREASON APOSTASY ANATHEMA THIS IS AN ATTACK ON OUR CORE VALUES"
Yeah, we know.
Trump voters: Awww poor liberal cry babies, do you need a safe space??
— Valerie (@ValeeGrrl) January 9, 2017
Also Trump voters: MERYL STREEP IS MEAN AND SHOULD STOP TALKING
How dare a professional actor with a career of complex and tragic roles discuss empathy and basic human decency. I for one am outraged

So, if you're wondering if award-winning actresses have a place in politics, Twitter has an answer:
People say Meryl Streep should leave politics aside because she's a rich celeb. That's all Trump is, but at least Meryl actually won an Emmy
