Pro-Gun Columnist Dies After Accidentally Being Shot By Teen With His Own Gun

Guns are always a contentious topic these days. When gun control is brought up, people that flock to either extreme end of the topic are the ones that get the most coverage, which usually has you hear from folks that want to ban all guns, usually quoting some statistic from a smaller country that banned guns and didn't have many guns to begin with, and people that follow the logic pattern of Stan Smith from American Dad.

M.D. Harmon, an unapologetically pro-gun columnist for the Portland Press Herald, died earlier this week after being accidently shot by a 16-year-old boy earlier this week.

The boy and his father were visiting Harmon in his Sanford, Maine home on Wednesday when Harmon handed the young man one of his loaded guns to check out. The gun ended up discharging while in the 16-year-old's hands, fatally wounding Harmon.

Harmon was vehemently against any form of firearms regulation, and would even lash out when legislation to introduce education for the safe handling of firearms was introduced, once calling a proposed mandatory safety class for gun owners "the worst part" of a proposed bill in Maine back in 2013.

Harmon's wife called the shooting an 'accidental tragedy,' and the police investigation is ongoing. Police have questioned the boy and his father, and spokesman Steve McCausland said, "The circumstances under which the gun was introduced is still under investigation," adding that they didn't know why the gun was loaded. "It is just one of the many questions we have."

This should serve as a reminder to all that basic gun safety rules should always be followed, regardless of experience.
